5 out of 5 stars Glad I bought it...   February 24, 2010

I first saw this at a friend's home. He had the HD Media Player (without the Live/network option) connected to each of his two huge HD monitors. The quality was excellent, and the convenience of having access to movies and TV shows through one little box was enticing. I was impressed.

As far as I know, the WD Media Player supports the most video codecs at the moment, so that is useful. The resolution for the output to the monitor depends on the quality of the video you download, so it is not the Media Player that is at fault.
The convenience of just sitting back with access to hundreds of movies and TV shows on a hard drive is such a luxury. I haven't connected the Media Player to my network yet, but I'm looking forward to that, and having access to more video content online. No regrets.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect   February 21, 2010

I have been waiting for something like this for years. I have been keeping a lookout for a network media player but they always seem to have a complaint about transfering video. This little device does it perfectly. It plays all of my videos through windows media server effortlessly. Set up was simple. I did hardwire this into my network for maximum bandwith.
I have also plugged in an external drive through the USB and it picked up the drive and played the videos easily.
I highly recommend this product.

4 out of 5 stars Almost perfect   February 20, 2010

First off i want to say this item is much better than seagate's version of this. It is the ultimate hd media player. Although it has a few problems, such as video's audio going out of sync when fast forwarding and rewinding for some file types (MP4). But im sure it could be fixed with a new firmware in the future.Going online to watch videos (youtube) is okay but a more variety of websites would be nice. Very easy to use, small box, and amazing video. It is a must buy for anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Quite amazing   February 15, 2010

Picture quality is great. Youtube plays amazingly well. You can connect a USB powered hard drive in it but sometimes the drive is not recognized, so you have to reboot the WD. I still have to put some icons here and there to ease navigation. I hope it's not too hard to do. I also hope they continue to develop the firmware to offer more online content in the future.

4 out of 5 stars Great little system, but....   February 14, 2010

Well it delivers on almost all the promises. It did reveal two inadequacies in my home system, that of having a 4:3 standard TV and the device not being able to read the signal correctly (I have to set my tv to 16:9 mode for it to work). The other is the embarrasingly slow bandwidth waaay up here in Prince Rupert makes the streaming video option almost non-existant. The navigation is pretty smooth, and I have yet to find a video file it can't play. I have not tried the audio feature or how well it streams video within my home network, but I will try and repost after I run a test.
